Objective

By the end of this lesson, Lively will understand what an ecosystem is and be able to identify different components of an ecosystem, such as plants, animals, and their habitats.

Materials and Prep

  • None needed!

Before the lesson, think about the different ecosystems around us, like forests, oceans, and deserts. Get ready to explore what makes each one special!

Activities

  • Nature Walk:

Take a short walk outside and look for different plants and animals. Ask Lively to point out what she sees and discuss how each living thing fits into the ecosystem.

  • Ecosystem Drawing:

Have Lively draw her favorite ecosystem. She can include animals, plants, and the sun. Discuss why each part is important for the ecosystem to work well.

  • Animal Role Play:

Choose a few animals and pretend to be them. Lively can act like a bird flying, a fish swimming, or a rabbit hopping. Talk about where they live and what they eat!

Talking Points

  • "What do you think an ecosystem is? It's like a big neighborhood where plants and animals live together!"
  • "Can you name some plants and animals we see outside? They are all part of the ecosystem!"
  • "Why do you think the sun is important for plants? It helps them grow big and strong!"
  • "What would happen if we took away one animal from the ecosystem? It could change everything!"
  • "Ecosystems can be very different! What's your favorite place in nature? That's an ecosystem too!"
