Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of patriotism, recognize symbols of their country, and express their feelings about being a patriot through art and writing.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any color)
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
- Glue and scissors
- Printed images of national symbols (like the flag, eagle, etc.) or simple sketches
- Notebook or journal for writing
- A comfortable space for working on art and writing
Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with a few national symbols and their meanings, as well as some simple definitions of patriotism.
Activities

Symbol Scavenger Hunt: Go on a mini scavenger hunt around the house or yard to find items that represent your country (like a flag, a red, white, and blue item, etc.). Discuss what each item means and why it is important.

Patriotic Art Project: Use the materials to create a piece of art that represents patriotism. This could be a drawing of the flag, a collage of national symbols, or a picture of something that makes you proud to be a citizen.

Patriotism Journal: Write a few sentences in your notebook about what being a patriot means to you. You can also draw a picture to go along with your writing.
