Objective
By the end of this lesson, Lively will understand the importance of kindness and sharing, as taught by Jesus, and will be able to share a story about how to show love to others.
Materials and Prep
- A comfortable space to sit and talk
- Paper and crayons for drawing
- A small toy or stuffed animal to use in role-playing
- Simple Bible story about Jesus (like the Good Samaritan)
Before the lesson, think about a few examples of sharing and kindness that Lively can relate to, such as sharing toys or helping a friend.
Activities
-
Story Time: Read a simple Bible story about Jesus that emphasizes kindness, such as the Good Samaritan. Ask Lively questions about the story to make it interactive.
-
Drawing Kindness: Have Lively draw a picture of a time when she was kind or a time someone was kind to her. Discuss the drawing together.
-
Role-Playing: Use a toy or stuffed animal to act out a scenario where someone needs help. Let Lively decide how to show kindness in the situation.
-
Kindness Jar: Create a "Kindness Jar" where Lively can write down or draw acts of kindness she has done or seen. This can be a fun ongoing activity!
Talking Points
- "Do you remember the story of the Good Samaritan? He helped someone who was hurt even though they were different from him. Why do you think he did that?"
- "Jesus teaches us to be kind and help others. Can you think of a time when you were kind to someone?"
- "What does it feel like when someone shares with you? How do you think it makes them feel?"
- "Let's pretend this toy is someone who needs help. How can we show kindness to them?"
- "Every time you do something kind, you can put a note in the Kindness Jar! What do you want to put in it today?"
