Objective
By the end of this lesson, Lively will be able to recognize and count numbers from 1 to 10 using fun activities that relate to Jesus and his teachings.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons or markers
- Small objects (like toys or snacks) to count
- A Bible or a children's storybook about Jesus
- Space for activities (a table or floor area)
Before starting the lesson, make sure to read a short story about Jesus that includes numbers, such as the story of the loaves and fishes, which can help connect the lesson to Lively's interests.
Activities
-
Counting with Jesus' Fish
Using small toy fish or cut-out fish shapes, Lively will count how many fish there are. You can say, "Let's count how many fish Jesus had to feed the people!"
-
Coloring Numbered Fish
Draw or print out fish with numbers 1 to 10 on them. Lively can color each fish as you count together. You can say, "Look at all the colorful fish Jesus used to help others!"
-
Jesus' Snack Time
Using snacks like crackers or fruit, Lively will practice counting by sharing them. For example, "Let's share 5 crackers like Jesus shared food with the people!"
-
Story Time Counting
Read a story about Jesus and pause to count things in the pictures (like sheep, fish, or bread). You can say, "How many sheep do you see? Let's count together!"
Talking Points
- "Do you remember when Jesus fed 5,000 people? That's a lot of fish!"
- "Counting helps us see how many blessings we have, just like Jesus blessed the food!"
- "Every number is special, just like every person is special to Jesus!"
- "When we share, we can count how much we have together, just like Jesus shared with everyone!"
- "Learning numbers is fun, and we can use them to tell stories about Jesus!"
