Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concepts of plumbing, including how water travels through pipes and the importance of keeping our water clean and flowing.

Materials and Prep

  • No special materials are needed for this lesson.
  • Prepare a safe space where the student can play and explore with water.
  • Be ready to demonstrate simple plumbing concepts using household items like cups and bowls.

Activities

  • Water Flow Experiment:

Using cups and bowls, the student can pour water from one cup to another to see how water flows. Discuss how pipes work like the cups, moving water from one place to another.

  • Pipe Cleaner Fun:

Using pipe cleaners, the student can create their own "plumbing system" by bending and twisting them into shapes. This helps them visualize how pipes can connect different areas.

  • Plumbing Story Time:

Read a simple story about a plumber and how they help fix leaks and keep water flowing. Ask questions about the story to engage the student.

  • Water Conservation Game:

Play a game where the student pretends to be a plumber who saves water. They can turn off imaginary faucets or fix imaginary leaks to keep the water from going to waste.

Talking Points

  • "Do you know what a plumber does? They help fix pipes and make sure water flows where it should!"
  • "Look how the water moves! Just like in pipes, water goes from one place to another."
  • "What happens if we have a leak? Water can make a big mess! That's why plumbers are important!"
  • "How can we save water? We can turn off the tap when we brush our teeth. That's a good plumber's habit!"
