Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and use the 5 W's (who, what, where, when, why) and 1 H (how) question words to create meaningful questions and improve their understanding of how to gather information effectively.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or pen
- Whiteboard or large sheet of paper (optional for visual aid)
Before the lesson, make sure to think of some fun topics or stories that the student enjoys. This will help in creating engaging questions during the activities.
Activities
-
Question Word Hunt:
Go on a "question word hunt" around the house or outside. The student will look for objects or activities and create questions using the 5 W's and 1 H. For example, "What is that?", "Where is my toy?", or "How do we play this game?"
-
Story Time Questions:
Read a short story together. After reading, the student will come up with questions about the story using the 5 W's and 1 H. This will help them practice comprehension and critical thinking.
-
Role Play Interviews:
Set up a role-play scenario where the student interviews a family member or a stuffed animal using the question words. This will encourage them to think creatively and practice speaking skills.
