Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have a basic understanding of puberty, including the physical and emotional changes that occur during this time, and will feel more comfortable discussing these changes.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored pencils or markers
- A comfortable space for discussion and activities
- Knowledge about the basic concepts of puberty (to be shared during the lesson)
Activities
-
Puberty Timeline:
Create a colorful timeline on paper that outlines the main changes that happen during puberty. The student can draw pictures or write short descriptions of each change. This will help them visualize the process and understand that it's a normal part of growing up.
-
Feelings Journal:
Encourage the student to start a feelings journal where they can write about their emotions and experiences. They can decorate the journal and use it to express how they feel about the changes they are experiencing or observing in themselves and their friends.
-
Discussion Circle:
Have an open discussion about puberty. Ask the student what they already know and share interesting facts. This will help them feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their thoughts.

- "During puberty, you might notice changes like growing taller, getting hair in new places, and your voice changing. These changes help you become an adult."
- "It's not just your body that changes; your feelings can change too! You might feel more emotional or have mood swings, and that's okay!"
- "Talking about puberty can feel a bit awkward, but it’s important to share your thoughts and ask questions. Everyone goes through it!"
- "Remember, you are not alone in this journey. Your friends are going through similar changes, and it's great to talk about it together!"
