Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have a better understanding of puberty, including the physical and emotional changes that occur during this important stage of development. They will feel more comfortable discussing these changes and know that they are a normal part of growing up.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored pencils or markers
- A comfortable space for discussion
- A timer for activities (optional)
- A notebook for notes
Before the lesson, it’s helpful to have a basic understanding of puberty and the changes that occur in both boys and girls. Prepare to answer questions and create a safe space for open dialogue.
Activities
- Draw Your Changes: Have the student draw a picture of themselves as they imagine they will look in a few years. Encourage them to think about changes in height, voice, and other physical features.
- Feelings Chart: Create a feelings chart where the student can draw or write different emotions they might experience during puberty. Discuss how these feelings are normal and part of growing up.
- Role-Playing Scenarios: Engage in role-playing where the student practices how to talk about puberty with friends or family. This will help them feel more confident in discussing these topics.
- Q&A Session: Have a question and answer session where the student can ask anything they are curious about. This will help clear up any misconceptions and provide accurate information.
