Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and locate different continents on a world map.

Materials and Prep

  • World map (can be printed or drawn)
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue
  • Index cards or small pieces of paper

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of continents to the student. Explain that continents are big landmasses on Earth.

  2. Show the student a world map and point out the different continents: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica.

  3. Give the student colored pencils or markers and ask them to color each continent with a different color.

  4. Using scissors, help the student cut out each continent.

  5. Have the student place the cut-out continents on a table or the floor, in the correct order according to the world map.

  6. Once the continents are in order, ask the student to tape or glue them onto the world map.

  7. Write the names of the continents on index cards or small pieces of paper, mix them up, and have the student match each continent to its name on the map.
