Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to spell and recognize basic craft-related words.
Materials and Prep
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers or crayons
- Printed craft-related pictures or drawings
Before starting this lesson, make sure your child is familiar with the alphabet and basic letter sounds.
Activities
-
Word Hunt:
Print out or draw pictures of different craft items such as scissors, glue, and paper. Scatter them around the room or on a table. Ask your child to find each item and spell its name out loud as they find it. Encourage them to use the initial sound of each word to help them spell.
-
Letter Collage:
Give your child a piece of construction paper and ask them to choose a craft-related word they want to spell. Help them write the word at the top of the paper. Then, have them search through magazines or old newspapers to find letters that spell out the word. They can cut out the letters and glue them onto the paper to create a colorful collage.
-
Spelling Bee:
Write down a few craft-related words on separate pieces of paper. Show each word to your child and ask them to spell it out loud. If they need help, sound out the word together. Give them positive reinforcement for their efforts and progress.
