Objective

By the end of this lesson, Aj will be able to recognize all the letters of the alphabet and understand the basic sounds associated with each letter. This will help Aj in reading and writing as he continues his learning journey.

Materials and Prep

  • None required for this lesson.

Before starting, it's helpful to have a quiet space where Aj can focus. Make sure to encourage him and keep the atmosphere fun and engaging!

Activities

  • Alphabet Song

Sing the alphabet song together. Encourage Aj to sing along and dance to the rhythm. This will help him memorize the order of the letters.

  • Letter Sounds Game

Go through each letter of the alphabet and say its sound. For example, "A says 'ah' like in apple." Let Aj repeat after you. Make it fun by using silly voices!

  • Sound Matching

Choose a few letters and ask Aj to think of words that start with those letters. For example, "What starts with 'B'? Yes, 'ball'!" This will help him connect sounds with letters.

  • Letter Hunt

Go on a letter hunt around the house. Ask Aj to find items that start with specific letters. For example, "Can you find something that starts with 'C'?"

  • Draw and Sound

Encourage Aj to draw pictures of objects that start with different letters. As he draws, ask him to say the letter and its sound. For example, "This is a cat, 'C' says 'k'!"

Talking Points

  • "What letter comes first in the alphabet? That's right, it's 'A'!"
  • "Can you tell me what sound 'B' makes? Yes, 'B' says 'buh'!"
  • "Let's think of words that start with 'D'. Can you think of one? Great job!"
  • "When we see the letter 'E', we say 'eh' like in 'elephant'. Can you say it with me?"
  • "Every letter has its own special sound. Let's learn them together!"
