Objective
By the end of this lesson, Dezi will understand what artificial intelligence (AI) is, how scientists are working on AI robots, the potential future of robots, and the various tasks they might perform for us. Dezi will also be able to express thoughts about robots and their role in our lives.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored pencils or markers for drawing
- A computer or tablet with internet access for research (if needed)
- Timer for activity duration
- Optional: A fun robot toy or model for reference
Before the lesson, make sure to have a comfortable space to work in and set a timer for each activity to keep things fun and engaging!
Activities
- Robot Drawing: Dezi will draw a picture of their dream robot. They can make it look like a human, an animal, or something completely unique! After drawing, Dezi will describe what their robot can do.
- AI Research Time: Dezi will spend some time researching how scientists are currently using AI in robots. They can look up simple articles or watch short videos that explain AI in a fun way.
- Robot Role-Play: Dezi can pretend to be a robot and act out tasks that robots might do in the future, like cleaning, cooking, or even playing games! This will be a fun way to express their understanding of robots.
- Future Robot Discussion: Dezi will sit with you and discuss what tasks they think robots will do in the future. Encourage them to think creatively and share their ideas.
Talking Points
- "What do you think AI stands for? That's right! It means Artificial Intelligence, which is when computers can think and learn like humans."
- "Did you know that scientists are working on robots that can help us with chores, play games, and even assist doctors? How cool is that?"
- "Some robots are already being used in factories and hospitals. What kind of robot do you think we will see in our homes in the next 10 years?"
- "Imagine a robot that can clean your room or help you with your homework! What would you want your robot to do for you?"
- "AI robots can learn from their experiences, just like you learn from trying new things. Isn’t it amazing how they can get better over time?"
- "What if robots could help us explore other planets? Scientists are thinking about that too! What do you think we could find?"
- "Robots can be our helpers, but we still need to be careful about how we use them. What rules do you think we should have for robots?"
- "Remember, the future is full of possibilities! What do you hope to see in the world of robots in your lifetime?"
