Objective

By the end of this lesson, Bethany will be able to recognize and understand how to tell time to the hour using an analog clock. She will learn the positions of the hour and minute hands and be able to identify different times of the day.

Materials and Prep

  • None required - all activities will be done verbally and visually.
  • Make sure to have a clear understanding of how an analog clock looks and works.
  • Prepare to use simple language and examples that relate to Bethany's daily routine.

Activities

  • Clock Drawing: Ask Bethany to draw a clock on a piece of paper. Encourage her to place numbers 1 through 12 on the clock face and draw the hour and minute hands pointing to different times. Discuss what each time means in her daily life.
  • Time Matching Game: Create a game where you say a time (like "3 o'clock") and Bethany has to make the clock hands match that time on her drawing. This will help her learn to visualize the time on a clock.
  • Story Time: Tell a short story about a character who does different activities at various times of the day (like waking up at 7 o'clock or going to bed at 8 o'clock). After each activity, ask Bethany what time it might be.
  • Time Songs: Sing a fun song about telling time. Use simple lyrics that mention different times of the day and what activities happen at those times. This will help her remember the concept of time through music.
