Objective

By the end of this lesson, Vaeda will learn the basic steps of baking bread, understand the ingredients involved, and enjoy the fun of mixing and kneading dough!

Materials and Prep

  • Flour
  • Water
  • Yeast
  • Salt
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Clean surface for kneading
  • Oven (with adult supervision)

Before the lesson, make sure to explain to Vaeda what each ingredient does in the bread-making process. Also, ensure that the oven is ready for use with adult supervision.

Activities

  • Ingredient Exploration:

Start by introducing each ingredient. Let Vaeda touch and smell the flour, yeast, and salt. Discuss how they feel and smell different.

  • Measuring Fun:

Let Vaeda measure out the ingredients using cups and spoons. This is a great opportunity to practice counting and measuring!

  • Mixing and Kneading:

Once the ingredients are measured, let Vaeda mix them together in the bowl. After mixing, she can knead the dough on a clean surface. This is a fun, hands-on activity!

  • Baking Time:

With adult help, place the dough in the oven to bake. While waiting, you can talk about what happens to the dough as it bakes.

  • Taste Test:

Once the bread is done, let Vaeda help take it out of the oven (with adult supervision) and enjoy a warm slice together!

Talking Points

  • "Look at this flour! It feels soft and fluffy. Can you feel it?"
  • "Now, let's measure 2 cups of flour. Can you help me count to 2?"
  • "Mixing is fun! Let's stir it all together until it looks like a big, messy ball!"
  • "When we knead the dough, we are giving it a big hug to make it strong!"
  • "What do you think will happen to our dough in the oven? It will get big and puffy!"
  • "Yay! We made bread! Let's taste it together. How does it taste?"
