Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of history and its relevance to their visit to the park.

Materials and Prep

  • None required

Activities

  1. Start by asking the student about their upcoming visit to the park. Encourage them to share what they are looking forward to and why they think it will be fun.

  2. Explain that history is the study of the past and how things have changed over time. Connect this concept to the park by discussing how parks have changed over the years. Ask the student if they think parks were the same in the past as they are now.

  3. Engage the student in a conversation about what they think parks looked like in the past. Ask questions such as: Were there swings and slides? Were there trees and grass? Were there benches for people to sit on?

  4. Show the student pictures or videos of parks from different time periods, if available. Discuss the similarities and differences between past and present parks. Encourage the student to make observations and ask questions.

  5. Ask the student to imagine what the park they are going to visit might look like in the future. Encourage them to use their creativity and think about new features or changes that could be made.

  6. Wrap up the lesson by summarizing the main points discussed and emphasizing the importance of understanding history in order to appreciate the present and shape the future.
