Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize different animal homes and understand that animals live in various places to be safe and comfortable.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson.
- Prepare to explore different animal homes by thinking about animals you might see in your neighborhood, zoo, or farm.
- Be ready to use your imagination and describe what each animal home might look like.
Activities
-
Animal Home Exploration:
Go around your home and look for places where animals might live. Use your imagination to describe what type of animals might live there, like under a chair or in a box.
-
Animal Sounds:
Make the sounds of different animals and ask your student to guess what animals they are. You can also talk about where those animals live.
-
Animal Home Storytime:
Tell a simple story about an animal and its home. For example, "The little bunny lives in a cozy burrow. What does a bunny say?"
Talking Points
- "Look! This is a house for a bunny. Bunnies like to live in soft, warm places!"
- "Can you make a sound like a dog? Dogs have doghouses. Woof, woof!"
- "Where do you think a bird lives? Yes, in a nest! Let's pretend to be birds!"
- "What about a fish? Fish live in water. Splash, splash!"
- "Animals need homes to feel safe. Can you find a place in our house that is cozy?"
