Objective
By the end of this lesson, Ella-Rose will learn the basics of bike riding, including how to balance, pedal, and steer, while having fun and building confidence on her bike.
Materials and Prep
- A bike that fits Ella-Rose well
- A helmet to keep her safe
- Open space, like a park or a quiet street
- Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes
Before the lesson, make sure the bike is in good condition and that the helmet fits snugly on Ella-Rose's head. Choose a safe area for riding where she can practice without distractions.
Activities
-
Warm-Up Stretching
Start with some fun stretching exercises to warm up Ella-Rose's muscles. Stretching helps prevent injuries and gets her ready to ride!
-
Balancing Practice
Have Ella-Rose practice balancing on the bike without pedaling. She can put her feet on the ground and try to lift them up while maintaining her balance. This will help her feel comfortable on the bike.
-
Pedaling and Steering
Once she feels balanced, let her practice pedaling slowly while steering in a straight line. Encourage her to look ahead and keep her body relaxed.
-
Fun Obstacle Course
Set up a simple obstacle course using cones or markers (you can use anything available) for Ella-Rose to ride around. This will make practicing more exciting and help her improve her steering skills.
-
Cool Down and Reflection
After riding, take some time to cool down with gentle stretches and talk about what Ella-Rose enjoyed most about the lesson. This helps her reflect on what she learned!
Talking Points
- "Riding a bike is like flying! The more you practice, the better you get!"
- "Balancing is super important. Can you feel how the bike stays upright when you find your balance?"
- "When we pedal, we make the bike go! Can you feel the wind in your hair when you ride fast?"
- "Steering helps us go where we want to! Let’s practice turning left and right!"
- "Look at how well you’re doing! Every time you ride, you get a little bit better!"
- "What was your favorite part of riding today? Let’s celebrate your progress!"
