He will also engage in fun activities that will help him understand basic concepts in art, English, history, math, physical education, science, and social studies.

Materials and Prep

  • Oatmeal
  • Cinnamon
  • Soymilk
  • Green apples
  • Baking powder
  • Eggs
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Pan for cooking pancakes

Before the lesson, make sure to have all the ingredients ready and the cooking area clean and safe. Explain to Emmanuel that we will be cooking together, and he will get to mix and pour!

Activities

  • Pancake Mixing: Emmanuel will help mix the ingredients in the bowl. He can pour the oatmeal, cinnamon, and baking powder, and then whisk it all together with soymilk and eggs. This activity promotes fine motor skills and understanding of measurements.
  • Apple Cutting: With supervision, Emmanuel can help wash and cut the green apples into small pieces. This will not only teach him about healthy eating but also improve his hand-eye coordination.
  • Cooking Time: Emmanuel will watch as the pancakes cook on the stove. You can explain the cooking process and the changes that happen when heat is applied to the batter.
  • Pancake Art: After cooking, Emmanuel can create pancake faces or shapes using the apple pieces. This will encourage his creativity and artistic expression.
  • Story Time: While enjoying the pancakes, read a short story about pancakes or breakfast foods. This will help develop his language skills and comprehension.

Talking Points

  • "Look at these yummy ingredients! What do you think will happen when we mix them together?"
