Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize different types of flowers, understand their colors and shapes, and create their own flower artwork using simple techniques.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any kind will do)
- Colored pencils or crayons
- Markers (optional)
- Reference images of flowers (printed or on a device)
- Apron or old shirt (to keep clothes clean)
Before the lesson, gather some pictures of flowers to show the student. Make sure to have a comfortable workspace ready for drawing and coloring.
Activities
-
Flower Exploration: Start by looking at different flower pictures together. Ask the student to name the flowers they see and describe their colors and shapes. This will help them notice the beauty in flowers.
-
Flower Drawing: Have the student choose their favorite flower from the pictures and try to draw it on their paper. Encourage them to focus on the shapes and colors they see.
-
Coloring Fun: Once the drawing is complete, let the student color in their flower using colored pencils or crayons. Talk about how they can mix colors to create different shades.
-
Flower Collage: If they want to get creative, the student can cut out flower shapes from colored paper (if available) and glue them onto their drawing to create a beautiful flower collage.
Talking Points
- "Look at all the different flowers! Do you see how they come in many colors?"
- "What shape does this flower have? Is it round, pointy, or something else?"
- "Can you find a flower that looks like a star? Let's draw it!"
- "When we color, we can mix colors. What happens if we mix yellow and red?"
- "Flowers can be different sizes. Can you draw a big flower and a tiny one?"
- "Art is all about having fun! Let’s see how many flowers we can create!"
