Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the importance of flowers in art and will create their own flower artwork using simple techniques. They will learn to express their creativity and appreciate the beauty of flowers in nature and art.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any type will work)
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Markers (optional)
- Access to a window or a garden to observe real flowers
- Images of famous flower artworks (optional for inspiration)
Before the lesson, make sure to gather all materials and find a comfortable space for the student to work. If possible, have a few flower images printed out or accessible online for inspiration.
Activities
-
Flower Observation: Start by looking at real flowers outside or through a window. Ask the student to describe what they see. What colors do they notice? What shapes do the flowers have? This will help them appreciate the details of flowers.
-
Flower Drawing: After observing, have the student draw their favorite flower on paper. Encourage them to use bright colors and to make the flower as big or as small as they like!
-
Flower Collage: If they have different colored papers or can tear pages from magazines, they can create a flower collage. They can cut or tear shapes to make petals and leaves, making a unique flower design.
-
Story Time: After the art activities, read a short story or poem about flowers. This can help connect their artwork to nature and literature.
