Objective

By the end of this lesson, Lilly-Mae will have a better understanding of horse breeds, their characteristics, and the importance of caring for them. She will also engage in fun activities that will enhance her knowledge and appreciation for these magnificent animals.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • Access to a computer or tablet for research (optional)
  • Space for movement (like a backyard or living room)
  • Horse-related books or articles (if available)

Before the lesson, ensure that Lilly-Mae has a comfortable workspace where she can draw and write. If using a computer, have some horse-related websites bookmarked for easy access.

Activities

  • Horse Breed Exploration: Lilly-Mae will research different horse breeds using books or online resources. She can create a poster with pictures and fun facts about her favorite breeds.
  • Horse Drawing Challenge: Lilly-Mae will draw her favorite horse breed and label its key features, such as height, color, and temperament. Encourage her to be creative with colors!
  • Horse Care Role-Play: Set up a role-play scenario where Lilly-Mae pretends to be a horse caretaker. She can practice grooming, feeding, and exercising her "horse" (a stuffed animal or a family member can act as the horse).
  • Horse Movement Activity: Lilly-Mae can imitate different horse gaits (walk, trot, canter) in a fun movement activity. This will help her understand how horses move and the different speeds they can achieve.
