Materials and Prep
- Access to Minecraft (computer or console)
- Notebook and pencil for notes and sketches
- Timer or stopwatch
- Internet access for research (optional)
- Open mind for creativity!
Activities
-
Minecraft World Creation: Haven will create a themed world in Minecraft that represents a historical period or country. She can choose to build ancient Egypt, a medieval castle, or a futuristic city. This activity combines creativity with historical research.
-
Language Arts Quest: After creating her world, Haven will write a short story about an adventure that takes place in her Minecraft creation. This will help her practice storytelling and writing skills.
-
Math Challenge: Haven will create a building in Minecraft that requires her to calculate the area and perimeter of the structures she builds. She can use blocks as units of measurement.
-
Musical Exploration: Haven will find or create music in Minecraft, exploring how sound can change the atmosphere in her world. She can experiment with different note blocks and create a short musical piece.
-
Physical Activity Break: Take a break from the screen! Haven can create a real-life obstacle course inspired by her Minecraft world and complete it for physical activity.
-
Science Experiment: Haven will research the science behind building materials in Minecraft (like stone, wood, and metals) and write about their real-world counterparts and uses.
-
Social Studies Discussion: Haven will discuss different cultures represented in Minecraft and how they can relate to real-world cultures and history.
