Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a better understanding of the Canadian geography, including provinces, territories, and major landmarks, while also enhancing their map-reading skills and learning fun facts about Canada.

Materials and Prep

  • Blank map of Canada (can be drawn or printed)
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • List of Canadian provinces and territories with fun facts
  • Access to a computer or tablet for research (optional)
  • Notebook and pen for notes

Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with the Canadian provinces and territories, as well as some interesting facts about each. This will help guide the student during discussions.

Activities

  1. Map Coloring Activity

    The student will use a blank map of Canada to color in each province and territory. They can use different colors for each region and label them accordingly. This will help them visualize the geography of Canada.

  2. Fun Facts Presentation

    The student will choose a couple of provinces or territories and research fun facts about them. They can create a small presentation or poster to share their findings with you, including things like famous landmarks, historical events, or unique wildlife.

  3. Geography Quiz Game

    Create a fun quiz game where the student will answer questions about Canadian geography. This can include identifying provinces on the map, naming capitals, or matching fun facts to the correct province.
