Objective
By the end of this lesson, Tempest will be able to independently dress and undress with minimal assistance, building confidence and self-sufficiency in managing her clothing.
Materials and Prep
- Clothes for dressing (t-shirt, pants, socks, etc.)
- Mirror (optional, for self-checking)
- Comfortable space for dressing and undressing
- Patience and encouragement
Activities
-
Dress-Up Relay:
Set up a fun relay race where Tempest puts on different clothing items as quickly as she can. Start with a t-shirt, then pants, and finish with socks. Celebrate her efforts and encourage her to try doing it all by herself!
-
Mirror Check:
After dressing, have Tempest look in the mirror to see how she looks. Encourage her to express how she feels in her outfit. Ask questions like, "Do you like your outfit?" or "How does it make you feel?"
-
Story Time with Clothes:
Read a simple story about a character getting dressed. After the story, ask Tempest to act out the dressing process with her own clothes, making it a fun and engaging experience.
Talking Points
- "Look at you! You can put on your clothes all by yourself!"
- "How do you feel when you wear this outfit? Happy? Silly?"
- "Let's see how fast you can get dressed! Ready, set, go!"
- "Can you show me how to put on your socks? That's so great!"
- "What color is your shirt? I love that color!"
