Objective

By the end of this lesson, Agnes and Ryla will be able to stand independently for a few moments, building their confidence and strength while exploring their surroundings.

Materials and Prep

  • No specific materials are needed for this lesson.
  • Ensure the area is safe and free of obstacles to allow for free movement.
  • Have a soft surface, like a carpet or mat, for safety while standing and falling.

Activities

  • Stand and Play:

Encourage Agnes and Ryla to pull themselves up on furniture or soft surfaces. Cheer them on as they practice standing and playing with toys.

  • Mirror Fun:

Set up a mirror at their height. Let them stand and see their reflection. Make funny faces and encourage them to mimic you while standing.

  • Follow the Leader:

Stand a short distance away and encourage them to stand and take steps toward you. Use a cheerful voice to motivate them to reach you.

  • Balance Beam:

Create a "balance beam" using a straight line on the floor (like tape or a line on the carpet). Encourage them to walk along it while holding onto your hands for support.

Talking Points

  • "Look at you standing! You're so strong!"
  • "Can you see yourself in the mirror? That's you!"
  • "Come to me! I’m right here! You can do it!"
  • "Let's walk on the line together! Be careful and steady!"
