Objective
By the end of this lesson, Primary will understand the meanings of "hello" and "welcome," learn how to greet others in different ways, and create fun crafts and recipes that reflect these greetings.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons or markers
- Craft materials (like scissors, glue, and colored paper)
- Ingredients for a simple recipe (like bread, butter, and jam for making "welcome toast")
- A storybook that includes greetings (choose one from your collection)
- Space to work on crafts and cooking
Before the lesson, gather all materials and choose a storybook that features greetings. Prepare the cooking area for the recipe activity.
Activities
- Greeting Cards: Primary will create colorful greeting cards using paper and crayons. They can write "Hello" or "Welcome" and decorate the cards with drawings or stickers. These can be given to family members or friends.
- Storytime: Read a story that includes greetings. Discuss the different ways characters say hello and welcome. Ask Primary how they felt when they heard those greetings.
- Welcome Toast: In the kitchen, help Primary make "welcome toast." Spread butter and jam on slices of bread, and cut them into fun shapes. Share the toast with family members as a way to say "welcome!"
- Greeting Dance: Create a fun dance to go along with saying "hello" and "welcome." Play some music and dance around while practicing the greetings out loud!
