Objective
By the end of this lesson, Rosabella will understand how spinach and apples are grown and harvested. She will learn about the life cycle of these foods and be able to explain the processes in her own words.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons or colored pencils
- A small pot or container for planting seeds
- Potting soil
- Spinach seeds (or store-bought spinach for observation)
- An apple (for observation)
- A small notebook for drawing and notes
Before starting the lesson, make sure to gather all the materials. Prepare a small area for planting seeds if you choose to do that activity.
Activities
- Planting Spinach Seeds:
Rosabella will plant spinach seeds in a small pot with potting soil. She will learn how to care for the seeds by watering them and placing them in sunlight.
- Apple Observation:
Rosabella will examine an apple, discussing its color, shape, and texture. She will also learn about where apples grow and how they are picked from trees.
- Drawing the Life Cycle:
Using crayons or colored pencils, Rosabella will draw the life cycle of spinach and apples. She can illustrate how seeds grow into plants and how apples grow on trees.
- Story Time:
Read a short story about a farmer who grows spinach and apples. Discuss the farmer's work and the importance of these foods.
