Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different sounds on the piano, explore playing simple notes, and enjoy making music through interactive activities.
Materials and Prep
- Piano or keyboard
- Colorful stickers (optional)
- Small toys or stuffed animals for engagement
- A comfortable space to sit and play
Before the lesson, ensure the piano is accessible and tuned if possible. Have the stickers ready for a fun activity, and arrange a cozy area for the student to sit comfortably.
Activities
- Sound Exploration: Let the student press different keys on the piano to hear the sounds. Encourage them to experiment with high and low notes.
- Colorful Keys: Use stickers to mark certain keys. Assign a color to each sticker and let the student play the keys with stickers.
- Animal Sounds: Use small toys or stuffed animals to represent different animals. Assign each animal a sound and have the student play a note for each animal.
- Musical Freeze Dance: Play a short tune and encourage the student to dance. When the music stops, they must freeze! After a few rounds, let them take turns playing a note to start and stop the music.
Ask the student to press any key they want and say, "Can you find a sound that is really high? Now try a low sound!"
Say, "Look at the pretty colors! Can you press the red key? What sound does it make?"
Say, "This toy is a cat! Can you play a note for the cat? What sound does the cat make?"
Say, "Dance while the music plays! Freeze when it stops! Can you play a note to start again?"
