Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to classify Pokémon based on real animal classifications, such as mammals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians, and understand the characteristics that define each category.

Materials and Prep

• Paper and colored pencils or markers
• A list of Pokémon characters (can be written down or printed out)
• A chart for animal classification (mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians)
• Knowledge of basic animal classifications

Activities

1. Pokémon Classification Chart: Create a chart on paper where the student can list different Pokémon and classify them into the appropriate animal category. Encourage them to draw their favorite Pokémon in the chart.

2. Pokémon Animal Match Game: The student will match Pokémon to their real-life animal counterparts. For example, they can match Squirtle to a turtle and Pidgey to a bird. This will help reinforce their understanding of animal characteristics.

3. Design Your Own Pokémon: Have the student create their own Pokémon based on an animal they like. They should think about the animal's characteristics and how they can make it unique, including types and abilities.
