Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have improved their gross motor skills, coordination, and understanding of movement through various fun outdoor activities.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are needed for this lesson, just a safe outdoor space.
  • Make sure the area is free of any hazards like sharp objects or uneven ground.
  • Check the weather to ensure it's a nice day for outdoor play.

Activities

  • Running Races:

Set up a start and finish line using natural markers like trees or rocks. Encourage your child to run from one point to another, and you can join in for a fun race!

  • Jumping Games:

Find a soft area to jump. Have your child practice jumping from one spot to another, counting the jumps together to make it more exciting.

  • Animal Walks:

Encourage your child to move like different animals. For example, they can hop like a bunny, waddle like a duck, or crawl like a bear. This will be a fun way to get them to move and laugh!

  • Obstacle Course:

Create a simple obstacle course using items found outside, like jumping over small rocks or crawling under branches. Guide your child through the course and cheer them on!

Talking Points

  • "Let's see who can run the fastest! Ready, set, go!"
  • "Can you jump like a bunny? Let's count how many jumps you can do!"
  • "What animal do you want to be? Let's move like that animal!"
  • "Wow! You're great at this obstacle course! Can you show me how you do it?"
