Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different piano keys, understand basic musical notes, and create a simple melody using the piano.
Materials and Prep
- Piano or keyboard
- Paper and crayons for drawing
- A comfortable space to sit and play
Before starting the lesson, make sure the piano is tuned and ready to play. Familiarize yourself with the layout of the keys and have fun while teaching!
Activities
-
Piano Key Discovery:
Let's explore the piano! Show the student how to find the white and black keys. Ask them to press different keys and listen to the sounds they make.
-
Musical Notes Drawing:
Using paper and crayons, have the student draw their favorite musical notes. Explain what each note represents and how they can be played on the piano.
-
Create a Simple Melody:
Help the student create a simple melody by choosing a few keys to play in a sequence. Encourage them to repeat the melody and even add clapping or singing!
Talking Points
- "Look at all these keys! The white keys are like the big brothers, and the black keys are the little brothers. Can you find a big brother and a little brother?"
- "Each note is like a friend that has its own sound. Do you want to draw your favorite friend note?"
- "Let’s make our own song! Which keys do you want to press? Remember, we can make it sound happy or silly!"
- "When we play the same notes again, it’s like telling a story twice. Do you want to tell your story again?"
- "Music is like magic! When we play notes together, we create something special. What do you think our music sounds like?"
