Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify the basic parts of the brain and understand its main functions in a fun and engaging way.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Play dough or clay (optional)
- Access to a comfortable space for activities
Before starting the lesson, review the basic parts of the brain: the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem. Think about how to explain these parts in a simple way that a 5-year-old can understand.
Activities
-
Brain Drawing:
Have the student draw a big brain on the paper. Encourage them to color different parts of the brain with different colors and label them with your help.
-
Brain Model with Play Dough:
If you have play dough or clay, guide the student in making a 3D model of a brain. Show them how to create the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem using different colors.
-
Brain Function Game:
Play a simple game where you ask the student to mimic actions that the brain helps us do, like thinking, running, or balancing. This makes it fun and interactive!
Talking Points
- "The brain is like a supercomputer that helps us think and learn!"
- "Did you know the big part of the brain is called the cerebrum? It helps us think and remember things!"
- "The cerebellum is like a little helper that makes sure we can balance and move smoothly!"
- "The brainstem is super important because it helps us breathe and keep our heart beating!"
- "Every time you learn something new or play a game, your brain is working hard!"
