Objective
By the end of this lesson, Archer will be able to name all 50 states of the United States, recognize their locations on a map, and understand a fun fact about each state.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored pencils or crayons
- A large map of the United States (drawn or printed)
- Index cards
- Pencil
Before the lesson, it’s helpful to have a simple map of the United States ready and to know a few fun facts about each state to share with Archer during the activities.
Activities
-
State Map Coloring: Archer will color in a blank map of the United States. As he colors each state, he can say the name of the state out loud to help remember it.
-
State Fact Cards: Archer will create index cards for each state. On one side, he will write the name of the state, and on the other side, he will write a fun fact about that state (like the state bird or a famous landmark).
-
State Song Challenge: Together, you will make up a silly song to help remember the names of the states. Singing helps with memory!
-
State Scavenger Hunt: Create a scavenger hunt where Archer looks for items around the house that represent different states (like a toy from California or a book about Texas).
