Objective
By the end of this lesson, Mason will learn how to make slime using simple ingredients. He will understand the basic science behind mixing materials and have fun exploring different textures and colors while creating his own slime!
Materials and Prep
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of glue (white or clear)
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- Food coloring (optional)
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon or spatula for mixing
- Plastic or silicone mat for easy cleanup
Before starting, make sure to cover the workspace with the mat to catch any spills. It's also a good idea to wear old clothes or an apron, as things might get a little messy!
Activities
- Mixing the Ingredients: Mason will pour the glue and water into the mixing bowl. Then, he will stir them together using the spoon until they are well mixed. This is where the fun begins!
- Adding Color: If Mason wants colorful slime, he can add a few drops of food coloring to the mixture and stir again. He can experiment with different colors and see what happens!
- Making it Slimey: Mason will add the baking soda to the mixture and stir it in. This will start to change the texture and make it slime-like. He can feel the mixture as he stirs to notice the changes!
- Playing with Slime: Once the slime is ready, Mason can take it out of the bowl and play with it! He can stretch it, squish it, and even make shapes. This is the best part of the lesson!
Talking Points
- "Look at how the glue and water mix together! What happens when we stir?"
- "Can you guess what color our slime will be when we add the food coloring?"
- "Feel how the slime changes when we add the baking soda! What does it feel like?"
- "Wow! Look at our slime! What shapes can you make with it? Let's play!"
