Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to describe their daily routine in French using common verbs and vocabulary related to daily activities. They will also practice speaking and writing in French, enhancing their language skills through engaging activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pen for writing
  • Whiteboard or large paper for drawing (optional)
  • Timer for timed activities
  • List of common daily routine verbs in French (e.g., se réveiller, manger, aller, étudier)
  • Familiarity with basic French sentence structure

Activities

  • Daily Routine Vocabulary Brainstorm

The student will create a mind map of their daily routine in French. They will write down verbs and phrases they use every day, translating them into French. This will help them visualize and remember the vocabulary.

  • Role-Play Scenario

The student will pair up with a family member (or role-play alone) to act out a typical day using French phrases. They will describe what they do at different times of the day, such as "Je me réveille à 7 heures" (I wake up at 7 o'clock).

  • Daily Routine Diary Entry

The student will write a short diary entry in French about their daily routine. They will focus on using the vocabulary and verbs they brainstormed earlier. This activity will enhance their writing skills and reinforce vocabulary.

  • Timed Vocabulary Quiz

The student will create flashcards with daily routine verbs and their meanings. They will then quiz themselves or a family member, trying to recall the French word for each activity within a time limit.

Talking Points

  • "Chaque matin, je me réveille à..." (Every morning, I wake up at...) - Useful for starting sentences about their routine.
  • "Après ça, je..." (After that, I...) - A great transition phrase to describe subsequent activities.
  • "J'aime..." (I like...) - To express preferences about different parts of their routine.
  • "Je vais à l'école/au travail à..." (I go to school/work at...) - Essential for discussing time and place in their routine.
  • "Le soir, je me couche à..." (In the evening, I go to bed at...) - To conclude their daily routine description.
  • "Qu'est-ce que tu fais chaque jour?" (What do you do every day?) - A question to engage others in conversation about their routines.
