  • Access to a computer or tablet for research (optional)
  • Art supplies (markers, colored pencils, etc.) for creative activities
  • Costume or props for a fun Halloween presentation

Before the lesson, make sure to have a comfortable workspace set up for Jordan to work on activities. It may also be helpful to have access to some Halloween-themed music for ambiance.

Activities

  • Halloween History Research:

Jordan will research the origins of Halloween, focusing on its Celtic roots and the evolution of traditions over time. This can include how it became popular in America and how different cultures celebrate the day.

  • Creative Costume Design:

Using art supplies, Jordan will design a unique Halloween costume. This can be a character from a favorite book, movie, or even an original creation. Encourage creativity and thinking outside the box!

  • Spooky Story Writing:

Jordan will write a short spooky story or poem. This can be inspired by classic horror tales or completely original. The goal is to have fun with storytelling and explore scary themes.

  • Halloween Presentation:

Jordan will prepare a short presentation about what they learned during the lesson, including the history of Halloween, their costume design, and the spooky story they created. This can be presented to family members or even recorded as a video.

  • "Halloween is celebrated in various ways around the world. For example, in Mexico, they celebrate Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, which honors deceased loved ones."
  • "Costumes are a big part of Halloween! They allow people to express themselves and step into a different character for a night. What character do you want to be?"
  • "Writing spooky stories is a fun way to explore fears and creativity. What themes do you think make a story truly scary?"
