Objective
By the end of this lesson, AJ will learn the importance of persistence through fun activities that encourage trying again, even when things get tough. AJ will understand that it's okay to make mistakes and that practicing can lead to success!
Materials and Prep
- None required! This lesson uses only AJ's imagination and determination.
Activities
-
Obstacle Course:
Set up a simple obstacle course using furniture or toys. AJ can crawl under tables, jump over pillows, and walk around chairs. Encourage AJ to try the course multiple times, cheering for each attempt!
-
Building Blocks:
Using blocks, challenge AJ to build a tower as tall as possible. If it falls down, encourage AJ to rebuild it, emphasizing that it’s okay to start over and try again.
-
Drawing Challenge:
Have AJ draw a picture of their favorite animal. If AJ feels frustrated, remind them that it's okay to keep trying and to keep adding to the drawing until they're happy with it.
-
Story Time:
Read a short story about a character who keeps trying, like a little engine that could or a bunny who learns to hop. After the story, discuss how the character didn’t give up.
Talking Points
- "It's okay if things don't work out the first time! We can try again!"
- "Look how strong you are! You can do this, just like the little engine!"
- "Every time we try, we get a little better. Let's keep going!"
- "Remember, even your favorite superheroes had to practice a lot!"
