Objective
By the end of this lesson, AJ will learn the importance of persistence through fun activities that encourage him to keep trying, even when things get tough. He will understand that it's okay to make mistakes and that practice helps us get better at things we want to do.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed; just AJ's enthusiasm and willingness to try!
- Prepare a comfortable and safe space for activities.
- Be ready to encourage and cheer for AJ during each activity.
Activities
-
Building a Tower: Use blocks or any safe household items to build a tower. Encourage AJ to keep stacking even if it falls down. Celebrate every attempt!
-
Coloring a Picture: Provide a picture for AJ to color. If he feels frustrated, remind him to take a deep breath and try again. Praise his effort regardless of how it looks!
-
Obstacle Course: Create a simple obstacle course using cushions or furniture. Encourage AJ to go through it multiple times, even if he stumbles or falls. Remind him that practice makes perfect!
-
Story Time: Read a story about a character who keeps trying, like "The Little Engine That Could." Discuss how the character didn’t give up and how that helped them succeed.
Talking Points
- "Sometimes things don’t work out the first time, and that’s okay! Let’s keep trying!"
- "Look at how tall our tower is getting! Even if it falls, we can build it again!"
- "When you color, it’s not about how it looks. It’s about having fun and trying your best!"
- "Just like in our story, if we keep trying, we can do amazing things!"
