Objective

Materials and Prep

• Various leaves (different shapes, sizes, and colors)
• Flat surface for working

Before starting the lesson, ensure you collect a variety of leaves from different trees and plants. Discuss with the student the importance of respecting nature and only collecting leaves that have fallen to the ground.

Activities

• Leaf Rubbing:

  Place a leaf under a piece of paper and use the side of a crayon or pencil to rub over the leaf. This will create a beautiful texture and outline of the leaf. Experiment with different leaves to see the variations in patterns.

• Leaf Collage:

  Gather various leaves and arrange them on a flat surface to create a collage. The student can glue the leaves down to a piece of paper or cardboard, creating a colorful display of nature's art.

• Leaf Printing:

  Using a leaf as a stamp, apply a thin layer of paint to one side and press it onto paper. This will create an imprint of the leaf, showcasing its unique shape and veins. Try using different colors for a vibrant effect!

• Nature Journaling:

  Encourage the student to create a nature journal where they can sketch the leaves they collected, write about their textures, colors, and the trees they came from. This combines art with science and observation.
