Objective

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or crayons
  • Notebook for writing
  • Timer (optional)
  • Access to a Harry Potter book or movie for reference
  • Basic math problems related to the story
  • Simple science experiments using household items (e.g., vinegar and baking soda)
  • Map of Hogwarts (can be drawn by the student)

Activities

  • Art: Create Your Own Wizarding Wand

    Using paper and colored pencils, the student will design their own magical wand. They can think about what materials it would be made from and what special powers it might have.

  • English: Write a Short Story

    The student will write a short story about a day in the life of a Hogwarts student, using their imagination to incorporate magical creatures, spells, and adventures.

  • Math: Potion Measurement Challenge

    Using simple math problems, the student will calculate how many ingredients are needed to make a potion. For example, if a potion requires 3 drops of dragon's blood for each batch and they want to make 4 batches, how many drops do they need?

  • Science: Create a Potion

    The student will conduct a simple science experiment to create a fizzy potion using vinegar and baking soda. They can discuss what happens when the two ingredients mix and relate it to potion-making in Harry Potter.

  • Social Studies: Map of Hogwarts

    Students will draw a map of Hogwarts, labeling important locations like the Great Hall, Gryffindor Tower, and the Forbidden Forest. They can discuss why these places are important in the story.
