Objective

By the end of this lesson, J will be able to identify the five senses and understand the basics of the human body, including its main parts and functions. J will engage in fun activities that stimulate each sense and learn about how our bodies work in a playful way.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and crayons for drawing
  • Small items for sensory exploration (like a soft cloth, a lemon, a flower, etc.)
  • Space to move around for body movement activities
  • Simple diagrams of the human body (drawn or printed)

Before the lesson, gather all materials and prepare a comfortable space for activities. Familiarize yourself with the parts of the human body that you want to cover, like the head, arms, legs, and heart.

Activities

  • Sense Scavenger Hunt: Go on a mini scavenger hunt around the house or yard to find items that represent each of the five senses. For example, find something soft for touch, something sweet for taste, something colorful for sight, something that makes a sound, and something with a strong smell.
  • Body Movement Game: Play a game where J imitates different body parts moving. For example, "Can you wiggle your fingers? Can you jump with your legs? Can you turn your head side to side?" This will help J understand how different parts of the body work together.
  • Draw Your Body: Using paper and crayons, J can draw a simple outline of their body and label parts like the head, arms, legs, and heart. This will help reinforce their understanding of body parts.
  • Five Senses Song: Create a simple song together that includes the five senses. For example, "I can see with my eyes, I can hear with my ears, I can smell with my nose, I can taste with my tongue, I can touch with my hands!" Singing makes learning fun!

Talking Points

  • "What do you think our senses are? They help us explore the world!"
  • "Can you name the five senses? They are sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell!"
  • "Look at this part of your body, it’s your heart! It helps pump blood all around you!"
  • "Every part of your body has a special job. Can you think of what your legs do?"
  • "Isn’t it fun to learn how our bodies and senses work together? Let’s keep exploring!"
