Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basics of gardening, including how to plant seeds, the importance of sunlight and water, and how to care for plants as they grow.
Materials and Prep
- Seeds (any easy-to-grow variety like beans or flowers)
- Soil (from the garden or potting soil)
- A small container or garden space for planting
- Watering can or cup for watering
- A sunny spot for the plants to grow
Before starting, make sure to choose a sunny spot for planting. Discuss with the student how plants need sunlight to grow strong.
Activities
-
Seed Planting:
Help the student fill the container with soil and then plant the seeds according to the instructions. Make sure they understand how deep to plant them and how far apart to space them.
-
Watering Time:
After planting the seeds, let the student water them gently. Discuss how water is important for plants and how they should check the soil to see if it needs more water.
-
Sunshine Check:
Take a moment to observe the chosen sunny spot. Explain why plants need sunlight and how it helps them grow healthy and strong.
-
Garden Journal:
Have the student start a simple garden journal where they can draw pictures of their plants and write down what they observe each day.
