Objective
By the end of this lesson, J will learn how to think quickly about a topic, organize thoughts, and present them confidently. J will practice speaking in front of others and will develop skills in choosing the best points to share.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons for writing and drawing ideas
- Timer or clock to keep track of preparation time
- A list of simple topics for J to choose from
- A comfortable space to present the speech
Activities
- Topic Selection: Begin the class by presenting a list of fun and age-appropriate topics. J can choose one that interests them the most, such as "My Favorite Animal" or "Why We Should Share Toys."
- Brainstorming Session: Set a timer for 5 minutes and encourage J to think of ideas related to their chosen topic. They can draw pictures or write down keywords that come to mind.
- Speech Preparation: After brainstorming, give J another 10 minutes to organize their thoughts into a short speech. Remind them to think about the beginning, middle, and end of their speech.
- Practice Presentation: Allow J to practice their speech in front of a mirror or to a stuffed animal. Encourage them to use a loud and clear voice.
- Presentation Time: Finally, J will present their speech to you or to family members. Celebrate their effort with applause and positive feedback!
