Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons or markers for drawing
- A quiet space for recording or presenting
- A timer to keep track of presentation times
- A comfortable spot to sit and listen to the newscast or drama
Before the lesson, make sure J understands the basics of storytelling, including characters, setting, and a simple plot. Discuss what makes a good newscast or radio drama.
Activities
-
Story Creation:
J will come up with a short story or news topic they are excited about. Encourage them to think about who the characters are, where the story takes place, and what happens in the story.
-
Script Writing:
J will write a simple script for their newscast or drama. Help them write down what each character will say and what sounds they might include to make it fun.
-
Practice Presentation:
J will practice reading their script aloud. Encourage them to use different voices for different characters and to add excitement to their delivery!
-
Recording or Performing:
J will either record their newscast or drama, or perform it live for you. Make sure to celebrate their effort, no matter how it turns out!
