Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and use basic Spanish vocabulary related to greetings, numbers, and colors. They will also gain confidence in using the Duolingo platform to practice their Spanish skills.
Materials and Prep
- Access to a computer or tablet with Duolingo installed or accessible via a web browser.
- Notebook and pencil for writing down new words and phrases.
- A list of common Spanish greetings, numbers (1-10), and colors.
- Encouragement and a positive attitude!
Activities
-
Duolingo Exploration:
Start the lesson by exploring the Duolingo app together. Let the student choose a topic, such as greetings or numbers, and complete a few exercises. This will help them get familiar with the platform and learn new words.
-
Flashcard Fun:
Create flashcards for the new vocabulary. On one side, write the Spanish word, and on the other side, write the English translation or draw a picture. Use these flashcards to quiz each other!
-
Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house or outside. Ask the student to find items of specific colors and say the color in Spanish. For example, "¿Dónde está algo rojo?" (Where is something red?)
-
Greeting Role-Play:
Practice greetings by role-playing different scenarios. For example, pretend to meet a new friend or a family member. Use phrases like "¡Hola!" (Hello) and "¿Cómo estás?" (How are you?).
-
Number Games:
Play a number game by counting objects around the house in Spanish. For example, count the number of books or toys. This will reinforce their understanding of numbers while making it interactive.
