Objective

By the end of this lesson, Haven will be able to recognize and use basic French greetings and introduce herself in French. She will also learn some fun vocabulary related to colors and animals, making her first steps into the French language enjoyable and engaging.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or crayons
  • A list of basic French greetings and introductions
  • Flashcards with colors and animals in French
  • A comfortable space to sit and learn

Before starting the lesson, make sure to familiarize yourself with the basic French phrases and the vocabulary list of colors and animals. This will help guide the activities smoothly.

Activities

  • Greeting Game:

Haven will practice saying "Bonjour" (Hello) and "Au revoir" (Goodbye) with you. You can take turns greeting each other and adding fun gestures to make it lively!

  • Color Hunt:

Go on a mini scavenger hunt around the house to find items of different colors. As Haven finds each item, she can say the color in French (e.g., "rouge" for red, "bleu" for blue) to reinforce her vocabulary.

  • Animal Charades:

Using the flashcards, Haven can pick an animal and act it out without speaking, while you guess what it is in French. For example, if she picks "chat" (cat), you can say "Est-ce un chat?" (Is it a cat?).

  • Art Time:

Haven can draw her favorite animal and color it using the colors she learned in French. After finishing her artwork, she can present it by saying, "C'est un [animal]" (This is a [animal]) and use the color in French.

Talking Points

  • "Bonjour! Je m'appelle Haven." (Hello! My name is Haven.) - A great way to introduce herself.
  • "Comment ça va?" (How are you?) - A friendly way to ask someone how they are doing.
  • "Merci!" (Thank you!) - A polite phrase to express gratitude.
  • "Je veux un [animal]." (I want a [animal].) - Useful for expressing desires, like wanting a pet.
  • "C'est [color]." (This is [color].) - To describe the color of an object she finds.
  • "Au revoir!" (Goodbye!) - A simple way to say goodbye at the end of the lesson.
