Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will create their own transportation-themed artwork, exploring different modes of transport while developing their creativity and fine motor skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper (any color)
  • Crayons or markers
  • Scissors (if safe and supervised)
  • Glue (if safe and supervised)
  • Any found objects (like bottle caps, cardboard, or old magazines)

Before the lesson, gather all materials in one place. Make sure the scissors and glue are safe for the child's use, or supervise closely if necessary.

Activities

  • Transportation Drawing:

Have the student draw their favorite mode of transportation. Encourage them to think about cars, boats, airplanes, or trains. Discuss what colors they want to use and why.

  • Collage Creation:

Using old magazines or found objects, help the student create a collage of different types of transportation. They can cut out pictures of vehicles and glue them onto their paper.

  • Transportation Storytime:

Ask the student to tell a story about a journey they took or would like to take using their favorite mode of transportation. They can illustrate their story with drawings.

  • Movement Game:

Play a fun game where you mimic different modes of transportation. For example, "Let's be airplanes flying!" or "Now we are cars driving fast!" This helps them connect movement with transportation.

Talking Points

  • "What is your favorite way to travel? Is it by car, bike, or maybe a train?"
  • "Look at all the colors we can use! What color do you think a fire truck is?"
  • "Can you tell me a story about where you would go if you were on a big airplane?"
  • "How do you think a boat moves on the water? Can you show me how it sways?"
