Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to express their creativity through storytelling and play, while learning about friendship, fashion, and imagination using Barbie as inspiration.
Materials and Prep
- Barbie dolls (or any dolls available)
- Paper and crayons or markers
- Space for play (like a living room or play area)
- Imagination!
Before the lesson, make sure the play area is clean and safe for the student to move around freely. Have the dolls and drawing materials accessible for easy use.
Activities
-
Barbie Fashion Show
Set up a mini runway using a blanket or a line on the floor. Have the student dress up their Barbie dolls in different outfits and walk them down the runway while describing each outfit. Encourage them to use their imagination to create fun fashion names!
-
Story Time with Barbie
Ask the student to create a short story about Barbie and her friends. They can use their dolls to act out the story as they tell it. Encourage them to think about where Barbie is going, who she is with, and what adventures they might have!
-
Barbie's Dream House
Using the available space, have the student create a "dream house" for Barbie using cushions, chairs, and other household items. They can decide which room is which and what Barbie and her friends will do in each room!
Talking Points
- "What do you think Barbie likes to wear? Can you tell me about her favorite outfit?"
- "If Barbie could go anywhere in the world, where would she go? What would she do there?"
- "How do you think Barbie feels when she is with her friends? Why is friendship important?"
- "Can you make up a fun story about Barbie? What happens next?"
- "What does Barbie teach us about using our imagination? Can you think of a time you used your imagination?"
