Objective
By the end of this lesson, Ava will learn about different types of pets, their needs, and how to take care of them. She will also have fun imagining what it would be like to visit a pet store!
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Colored pencils or crayons
- A list of common pets (like dogs, cats, fish, birds, etc.)
Before the lesson, make sure to gather the materials and familiarize yourself with different pets and their care. This will help you guide Ava through the activities!
Activities
-
Pet Drawing:
Ava will choose her favorite pet and draw it on paper. Encourage her to think about what colors and features make that pet special!
-
Pet Care Role Play:
Set up a pretend pet store at home. Ava can pick a pet (a toy or stuffed animal) and act out how she would take care of it. This includes feeding, playing, and cleaning up!
-
Pet Needs Chart:
Ava will create a chart showing what each pet needs to be happy and healthy. For example, dogs need walks, and fish need clean water!
Talking Points
- "What is your favorite pet, Ava? Why do you like it?"

- "If you had a pet fish, how would you take care of it? What kind of food do you think it likes?"
- "Can you think of some fun toys that pets like to play with?"
- "Why is it important to take care of our pets? How do they feel when we take care of them?"
- "What would you say to someone who wants to get a pet? What should they think about?"
