Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to build a simple structure using Legos, demonstrating creativity and basic engineering skills while having fun in the process!

Materials and Prep

  • Assorted Lego bricks (various shapes and sizes)
  • A flat building surface (like a table or mat)
  • Optional: A timer for fun challenges

Before the lesson, ensure that the Lego bricks are clean and organized. Set up a comfortable building area free from distractions.

Activities

  • Free Build Time:

Give the student 15-20 minutes to build whatever they want with the Legos. Encourage them to use their imagination and create something unique!

  • Color Sorting Challenge:

Ask the student to sort the Lego bricks by color. This helps them learn about colors and improves fine motor skills. You can make it a race against the timer for added fun!

  • Building a Tower:

Challenge the student to build the tallest tower they can using the Legos. Discuss balance and stability as they build, and see how high they can go without it falling over!

  • Story Time Structure:

Ask the student to build a structure based on a favorite story or character. For example, they could build a house for their favorite cartoon character or a castle from a fairy tale!

Talking Points

  • "What colors do you see in your Lego bricks? Can you find all the red ones?"
  • "How tall do you think your tower can be? Let's see if we can make it taller than you!"
  • "What story are we building today? Can you tell me about it as you build?"
  • "Why do you think some bricks stick together better than others? Let's explore!"
